Steampunk Weekend 2024

What’s On?

Throughout the weekend – Stalls and Music in The Soaperie Gardens next to the Parish Church on St Marys Street, Kirkcudbright

Saturday – 29 June 2024

10am   Event Opens with Stall holders in the Soaperie Gardens and The Dark Box in Scout Hut

11am   Victoria Tea Room opens with Teas, Coffee and Cake

11.30am   Live Music in the Marquee in Soaperie Gardens kicking off with local ukulele band Ukefrolics

12.30       Gegen4 – a blend of rock tunes and some jigs and reels

1.30         That’s All Right –  Some rock and roll and blues with local duo

2.30         The Solway Coasters –  Rousing songs and ukuleles with another local ukulele band

3.30          Wrest – Local band   

5pm         Stall holders exit

Throughout the day, there will be Mary Shelley cocktails being served in the Dark Arts Gin Distillery in The Johnston Building on St Marys St, right next to The Dark Skies Planetarium and Steampunk books will be available from Gallovidia Books. 

Saturday Evening –  Music, Dance and Readings – Scout Hut in Soaperie Gardens –  Bring your own refreshments

7.00    Doors open – Ticket numbers checked off on entry

7.30    Two readings by William Gault and Mary Shelley

8.00    Lively folk rock from The Razorbills, followed by another reading by Jules Verne

9.00    Interval and Raffle

9.15    Last Reading by HG Wells

9.30    Lively steampunk band Kissing The Flint

10.30        Evening Closes

Sunday – 30 June 2024

10 am  –  Stalls in Soaperie Gardens and Scout Hut Open

10.00 am – The Dark Box in the Scout Hut will be there all day for metal plate photography

11am –  Lord Holyrude will be playing his Gramophone records in the Marquee

12 noon –  That’s All Right will be performing their blend of Rock and roll and blues

1 pm  – Lord Holyrude will be back with his Gramophone collection

1.30 – Gathering for photos in front of the Parish Church

Throughout the day the Planetarium is open, further along St Marys Street next to The Dark Arts Distillery which will be serving Mary Shelley Cocktails

3pm  –  Event closes

Auntie Joan’s Attic – Vintage clothes, costume jewellery & tea sets, new handmade jewellery, vintage lace, ribbons…and some clothes to customise.

NorthStone Art and Jewellery – Michelle is a mixed media sculptor making individual art and jewellery from clays, fabrics  and mixed metals. New collection launching in time for the Steampunk Weekend

Le Hat Noir creates unique, high quality millinery working in bukram, felt and sinamay making dramatic statement pieces to match any outfit

Tim Pettifer and Gavin – Junk machinery transformed into weird and wonderful steampunk items

Steffy’s Boutique – Vintage clothing and accessories based in Peebles

Inventor’s Gin Co. Ltd. –small batch award winning gin inspired by land and sea and Scotlands contributions to the Industrial Revolution

Good Fairy Bad Fairy – more charms, handmade patches and jewellery tha any sane person should have

The Blinkered Bar – all your drinking requirements served from a horse box

The Paper Karver – Laura makes art from paper and card

Swimming Pool Charity – Charity shop goods in support of our local Swimming Pool in Kirkcudbright

Busy Lizzie Art – Lizzie is a Galloway lass who paints glassware and makes quirky steampunk chokers, badges and earrings and makes unique pieces of costueme jewellery

Granny Janny – embroidery art with a steampunk and gothic theme and plague doctor style masks and other hand sewn items

Home made by Amy Hall –  homemade baking products including cakes

The Emporium – Jo makes and sells historically inspired fashion from hats to jabots and lots of frills and lace.  Think Bridgerton and Jane Austen

Colin Saul – weird and wonderful machinery, sculptures and vehicles

Triskele Artisan Jewellery – Celtic and Viking inspired arm rings necklaces and earrings using stone and lampwork beads and upcycled copper based in Mull of Galloway

James Frost – author of Steampunk novels bringing his latest and previous publications and will also do readings

Ninefold Distillery –  Kit Carruthers will tempt you with a range of his locally distilled rums

The Dark Box – wet plate collodion photography in the Scout Hut

Music

Performers in the marquee will include Gegen4,  Ukefrolics, The Solway Coasters, That’s All Right and Wrest,

At the Scout Hut on Saturday evening there will be music by Kissing the Flint and The Razorbills as well as readings from HG Wells, Mary Shelley, Edgar Allan Poe and Jules Verne. Click here to buy tickets.
