Find out about our equipment with a tour of the printworks
We have so much to show you, from vintage typewriters and duplicators to cutting machines and printing equipment. The printworks is full of character and a charming visit to our industrial past. Nothing is motorised or electrical and we could print in a power-cut just fine as everything is operated by hand.
If you want to get the most out of your visit to the printworks you should consider joining us for our Talk and Tour. It lasts about an hour and due to our limited physical space we have to have keep numbers low. This means that booking in advance is essential. Tours are available most Thursday, Friday and Saturday afternoons and costs £10 per adult, £5 per child (under 6 are free). A family ticket is £25.
The tour is given by the printworks curator Phil Robinson who is also an expert in the history and evolution of letterforms. We will tell you a little about the history of letters, writing and printing and explain methods of the entire printing process from design to finished product. We will also show your around our type room and give a demonstration of composition and typesetting work.
After this we will demonstrate how our presses operate and explain what each different press is used for. There's plenty of opportunity for questions also.
We keep irregular opening times and all tours and workshops must be booked in advance by emailing us at: phil@vintageprintworks.com
